Luxury Vinyl Tiles
Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVTs) are made from PVC vinyl, plasticisers and polyurethane to create beautiful designer flooring. LVTs come in various shapes and sizes, usually tile and woodplank, and are intended to replicate natural and real wood flooring products but minus any of the practical downsides.
Some of the benefits of Luxury Vinyl Tiles…
1) Strength
LVTs won’t crack, split or break like their natural alternatives such as ceramic tiles, solid wood and stone tiles. LVTs are one of the hardest wearing and most durable floor covering products available.
2) Quiet and Warm
Compared to flooring counterparts, LVTs are extremely quiet under heavy foot traffic unlike other wooden products such as laminate flooring. Also, LVTs are warm underfoot compared to walking on a cold ceramic tile after a shower first thing on an early winter morning!
3) Low Maintenance
LVTs are produced from a customised form of PVC vinyl and Plasticisers which makes them very easy to keep clean. With a regular mop, LVTs can maintain their new look for literally decades! Please have a look on our photos for pictures of an Amtico floor that we recently cleaned and was estaimated to be at least 25 years old and still looks as good as the day it was installed! Also, LVTs don’t need the stress of resanding and sealing every few months like a solid wood product requires
4) Versatile
LVTs are suitable for almost any enviroment whether a domestic or commercial application such as Retail and Leisure sectors. Pop into any high street store and chances are you will be walking on an LVT.
Various designs and styles are available such as a popular herringbone design or a border design with feature strips and even bespoke designs are available.
5) Water resistant
Unlike wooden products, LVTs are great for areas prone to water such bathrooms, kitchens and toilets.
The market leaders in LVTs continue to be Amtico and Karndean. However, they now have some stiff competition from the likes of MFlor, Vusta, Polyflor and LG. All of these names now produce excellent LVT products.
Luxury Vinyl Tiles require the sub floor to be sound, free from inperfections and completely smooth. Timber floors such as chipboard require covering with a minimum 6mm ply and a feather screed applied to cover joint lines and screw/nail holes. Failure to cover chipboard will result in parafin wax from the chipboard reacting with adhesive and ultimately end in floor failure. Concrete sub floors require a smoothing underlayment screed to obtain a perfect smooth finish to fit LVTs.
Guarantees & Warranties
All LVT manufacturers offer a warranty for both commercial and domestic floors ranging from 10 years to 25
Please be aware that Amtico will not uphold their guarantee unless their product has been fitted by a professional fitter qualified with an NVQ2 in Impervious Flooring.
